Guess again!

The Winnie the Pooh we all know and love from the popular cartoon is depicted as a boy, but he is actually a she!

The real Winnie the Pooh is actually a girl.

The cartoon character was named after a black bear named Winnie, who lived at the London Zoo.

According to the Huffington Post, the bear’s name was a tribute to the city of Winnipeg in Canada.

The story behind “the world’s most famous bear” is outlined in a new children’s book called, Finding Winning, by Lindsay Mattick.

The Huffington Post reports that Mattick is the great-granddaughter of Lieutenant Harry Colebourn. He was a veterinarian who bought Winnie as a cub during WWI.

Colebourn bought Winnie for just $20 and took her along on his travels.

Winnie became became Colebourne’s regiment’s unofficial mascot, but he left her behind at the London Zoo when he left for France with his unit.

While at the zoo, Winnie was visited by a young boy named Christopher Robin. He reportedly loved her so much that he named his own toy bear after her.

And to bring this story all together, Christopher Robin’s father was A. A. Milne, the author who created the Winnie the Pooh character that become a childhood favorite.
