Authorities said John Bernecker fell more than 20 feet Wednesday, landing on concrete. He was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center, where he later died.

According to Richard Hawk, a coroner for the Coweta County Coroner's Office, the cause of Bernecker's death was blunt force trauma. He passed away on Wednesday.

Bernecker was an experienced stuntman with a long list of movie credits. Friends said he was one of the best around and liked to help others with stunts.

“Very skilled, he knew his stuff because he helped me with camera angles where to hit and punch if the cameras were in a certain spot," said good friend and stuntwoman Janeshia Adams-Ginyard.

The accident has shaken many in the stunt community.

"People don't think about the stunt guys until something like this happens, but there are a lot of risks with the job," said stuntman Diego Ward.

Friends said family and members of the stunt community stayed by his side as he was treated in the intensive care unit.

"There's a good showing of support, lots of close friends. It's really sad right now, we're all trying to process it. I'm trying to process it. It just doesn't seem real," Adams-Ginyard said on Thursday.

Friends confirmed to FOX 5 News, the production of The Walking Dead was halted after the accident. No word on when it will resume.
