DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (WTXF) - It was 9/11 that inspired a little boy from Delaware County to join the United States Army 16 years ago.
Now at the age of 29, Rusty Carter has been honored by the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association.
Rusty was sent to Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border, when just two months into his deployment, he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
The injury left Rusty paralyzed from the chest down, and with limited use of his hands and fingers.
Fox 29's Sue Serio is the emcee of their annual Freedom Medal Dinner where she spoke with Rusty and his fellow recipients who stopped by FOX 29’s Salutes the Military Day this year.
