ROSEVILLE, CA - 7-year-old Vinny Desautels grew his hair out for two years to help children with cancer.
"I want to help people so they don't have to go to the doctors to fight cancer,” Vinny said.
Thirteen inches of his hair was cut off.
"And then everyone got excited when mom cut the ponytails off. I was happy," Vinny said.
FOX 8 reports that Vinny was happy to help and asked for nothing in return.
"During that time he was mistaken for a girl many times, but Vinny took it like a champ and was like, 'Nah, I'm a boy," Jason, Vinny’s dad said.
But then, things began to take a turn for the worse.
“My eye was getting heavy,” Vinny said.
Jason confirmed, “It is Stage 4 aggressive cancer.”
Now, the little boy who so generously gave back to those suffering with cancer is now afflicted with the same disease.
"Basically, what they found is that he has a significant growth on his hip and in the bone around the eye and behind the nose and on the cheek on the right side," said Jason.
The 7-year-old remains in good spirits, but he is realistic about his diagnosis.
"Well, the veins from my hip are traveling to another place right behind my eye and it's making it squinty,” Vinny said.
Doctors are still trying to identify the type of cancer Vinny has, FOX 8 reports.
The family has set up a support page for Vinny on GoFundMe.
