1 dead in New Castle, Del. townhome fire

Officials say one person was killed in a fire on the 1000 block of Old Forge Road in New Castle, Delaware.

It happened around 10 a.m. Friday morning.

The Christiana Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the 2-story townhouse. Firefighters found one person deceased inside the burning house.

State fire investigators are currently on the scene conducting the investigation. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy Saturday on the victim.

Heavy fire damage to three townhouse units was estimated at $200,000. Two firefighters were injuried.

One firefighter did suffer an ankle injury. A second firefighter was injured suffering burns to his hand and head. He is in good condition at the Christiana Hospital.

This fire remains under investigation.
