HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) - A suburban New York man who allowed his unlicensed 15-year-old daughter to drive an SUV that crashed and killed three of her friends has been sentenced to up to 16 years in prison.

A Pennsylvania judge on Thursday says he sentenced 54-year-old Michael Ware to 6 ½ to 16 years in prison because Ware didn't show remorse and lied to investigators about his involvement.

Wayne County President Judge Ray Hamill repeatedly called Ware's actions "preventable, irresponsible, reckless, stupid and selfish."

Ware pleaded guilty last month to three counts of involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in the Aug. 30, 2014, crash.

Prosecutors say Ware gave the keys of his Chevrolet Suburban to his daughter, who drove five friends to breakfast before losing control and flipping in the Pocono Mountains.
