An 18-year-old has been denied bond after being charged with the murder of his mother.
Jennifer Sellers was set to start as a teacher’s assistant at Cullowhee Valley School in Cullowhee, North Carolina in a few weeks.
But now, her family is setting things in place for her funeral.
Deputies say that Sellers’ own son caused her death.
“It's the worst nightmare, you wouldn't think that something like this would happen to a member of your school family,” Dr. Mike Murray, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools said.
According to deputies, Sellers was killed on Wednesday night by her son Daniel.
Warrants indicate that Daniel suffered from mental health issues – however, officials cannot say whether those issues had any impact on the incident.
Now, the public is remembering Sellers, who donned many hats in the community. She was an ordained minister, a dance instructor, and a substitute teacher who was known for lending a helping hand.
“She was always willing to help. Any way we asked, she helped her administrator and her school,” Murray said.
Student Priscilla Caplinger said, “She was very motherly and she was just always nice to be around.”
Now Sellers’ other children are being looked after by family. Several years ago, her husband passed away from cancer.
