PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police say they are investigating a carjacking at Norris and American Streets in West Kensington.
It happened shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
For the family of 35-year-old Metro Sywkiw there were some scary moments Tuesday evening when two suspects allegedly carjacked the father of three right out of his new 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 in West Kensington.
Police say Sywkiw had just pulled up to a relative's home on the 2000 block of Bodine Street to pick up his 13- year-old son, when two men carjacked him, seconds before his son came out of the house.
Police responding to the scene found the victim lying in the street bleeding from his head. They rushed him to Episcopal Hospital. He was then transferred to Temple University Hospital in stable condition, suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck.
Police found the victim's Dodge Ram moments later on Randolph Street. Sywkiw's family says he's a teamster who works at the city's food distribution center out on Essington Avenue. One witness told police and FOX 29 he heard the alleged carjackers yell "d-e-a...d-e-a" before they attacked him.
Detectives are not sure if he was targeted for his new truck or for some other reason. Family members say they don't know why this hardworking family man with no problems would be carjacked and shot. Police are reviewing surveillance video in the area looking for leads in this case.
