Traffic Stop Leads to Chase, Crash, and Carjacking in South Philadelphia

- Police in South Philadelphia are searching for a man they say drove off after an attempted traffic stop, and later carjacked another vehicle with passengers still inside.

Officers attempted to pull over a Ford Mustang near 19th and Camac Streets after 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Instead of stopping, police say the driver took off, and crashed into a parked vehicle.

The driver then exited the Mustang, and carjacked a Nissan right in front of officers on the 1200 block of Camac Street.

Two women were in the back seat of that Nissan.

Police say the suspect drove a few blocks in the second vehicle before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.

One of the women in the car then drove to 9th and Ritner Streets, where she flagged down a police officer.

The suspect's description matched the photo of a man on a prison ID card that had been left hanging from the mirror of the Mustang. Police say they are looking for a 28-year-old state prison parole.
