Charity donates cars to dozens of single moms

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (WTXF) - Some single moms get a helping hand just in time for Mother's Day celebrations.  Hands of the Carpenter are a non-profit located in Colorado.  The company gives out cars and car repairs to single mothers and, the act of kindness does far more than ever imagined.

FOX's Macradee Aegerter has the story.

Motherhood is often described as the ultimate reward but being a mom, especially a single one, can also be a challenge.

"There are not many gifts they receive, raising their children on their own." Dan Georgopulos, founder & CEO, Hands of the Carpenter said.

Women like Maria Aguilar, who's dedicated the last 18 years to raising three girls on her own.

"We have overcome so many obstacles and adversity." Aguilar said.

The latest obstacle is their only car breaking down leaving them with no transportation to school, work, or activities.

"It’s a little devastating because I feel like I’ve reached a certain level of my life of independency, self-sufficiency." Aguilar said.

"There's no way that anything I’m doing is going to out give god who's given us everything here." Georgopulos said.

Outside Cherry Hills Community Church, 10 single moms including Maria get keys to a donated car to keep them on the path to success.

"It’s a huge blessing. It’s life changing. It keeps us moving forward and reaching the goals that we have." Aguilar said.

This is more than a Mother's Day gift.

"In many cases the reason why they are where they're at is because they don't have transportation and their car failed, they lost their job and in some cases lost their home too." Georgopulos said.

Hands of the Carpenter gives mothers hope and help for the future.

"It really means a lot to me." Aguilar said.
