Police: 14-year-old girl struck by stray bullet inside home

- Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting on the 4400 block of N. Gratz Street in the city's Logan section.

Gunfire erupted Monday night and a stray bullet traveled more than half a block and struck an innocent 14-year-old girl sitting in her great-grandmother's kitchen.

"A bullet went through the siding and the dry wall and struck her in the right leg," Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters.

"They know to duck on the floor when it happens, "one neighbor said.

Police say at least ten shots were fired from a .45 caliber handgun just after 6 p.m. Police arrived at the shooting scene and quickly raced the teenage girl to the hospital.

"If this would have hit her in the torso or any other area, it could have been critical or even fatal," Chief Small said.

This shooting happened several hours after 25 shots were fired just blocks away at 15th and Venango. Those bullets riddled a mini van.

"We're looking into the possibility that this shooting was related to that double shooting earlier today," Chief Small added.

" Very sad, very sad because we don't normally have anything like that around here. This block is like, real quiet," neighbor Jackie Carroll told FOX 29.

There are surveillance cameras in the area and a police real time crime camera near by as well. Police don't have a motive for either shooting so far. One suspect is being questioned in the shooting at 15th and Venango. Two guns and a mask were recovered nearby in an abandoned home.
