Doylestown, Pa. (WTXF) What's in a grade? Many parents in the Central Bucks School District say right now they couldn't tell you. Ousting traditional letter grades and installing a new standards-based report card system is confusing them and hurting their children.
On Tuesday, parents, school board members and administrators came together at a school board meeting to address the confusion.
Parent Dana Hunter says receiving an "M" for meeting standards versus a typical A,B or C does not tell her anything about her children's progress.
Other parents also want the system overhauled but some think the proposed compromise for next year - a hybrid of letter grades and standard indicators is too confusing.
Ultimately, the entire system will need to be changed but that can't happen by September.
On Tuesday, the board voted 5 to 4 in favor of adding letter grades to the existing report cards for 5th and 6th grades only.
