Man charged in deadly bus stop hit and run

- The man who turned himself in hours after Tuesday’s hit and run crash that killed a man at a bus stop has been charged and identified.

Police say John Cook was the driver of the black 2003 Lexus E-300 that “appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed when it drove onto the sidewalk, knocking down the SEPTA canopy, then tossing the victim approximately 120 feet from the point of impact.”

It happened at about 12:30am Tuesday, at Cottman and Bustleton avenues. A 50-year-old father of two, Alejo Molina, was killed.

Then, police say Cook, 35, “walked over and looked at the pedestrian laying on the ground” before running away on foot.

He eventually turned himself in at police headquarters at about 8am.

Cook is charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, causing an accident while not properly licensed, and fleeing the scene of an accident where death results.
