Police identify teen killed in Hunting Park hit-and-run

- The Esquilin family is heartbroken over the hit and run death of 18-year-old Kevin Maldonado. It happened in front of their auto body shop on the 3900 block of Old York Road.

“How much did he mean to our family? He meant a lot,” said family friend Greg Esquilin. “He was the boyfriend of my little sister. My little sister is everything to me. He was like everything to me, too.”

According to police, the teen was run down by a white 2010 Prius Wednesday night around 9 o’clock. Surveillance video from Poppy and Son’s Auto Body shop shows the car speeding down the street.

“You can see the vehicle traveling south on Old York Road. It strikes the 18-year-old victim who is launched about 30 feet,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police say the car was stolen and the driver did not stop. The car was found just two blocks away on the 1300 block of West Pike Street.

Police are now looking through surveillance video to find clues to lead them to the driver.
