WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - A Pennsylvania congressman is calling for a formal investigation into groundwater contamination.
Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-13th District) wants Congress to look into contaminated water surrounding more than 600 Department of Defense bases across the country. That includes the area around Horsham Air Guard Station.
Rep. Boyle said he wants to force testimony from experts on perfluorinated compounds (PFOS & PFOA) as well as officials at the Dept. of Navy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
In three neighborhoods around the former Willow Grove base, more than 150 wells are contaminated with chemicals linked to cancer. The military says the chemicals in question are primarily from firefighting.
