SIMPSONVILLE, SC--A South Carolina police department has a new officer in its ranks.
He's only 6, but Officer Peyton Gesing is hitting the streets like an old pro. Unlike most kids his age, Gesing has stage 4 Neuroblastoma . His mom says so far, no treatments have worked, but that isn't keeping Peyton down.
The Simpsonville Police Department made Peyton an honorary police officer, complete with official ID card.
The pint size patrolman is shy during his rounds, but full of smiles.
His mother, Suzanne Gesing, says she is grateful for the joy the experience brings to her sons life.
"He's always in pain or doesn't feel good. And now he eats. He's gained four pounds in a week. I found that out today, It just feels like he has a purpose instead of just cancer, instead of just living at the hospital,” she explained.
The police department is also trying to help the family offset some of the medical bills. The Gesing's have also set up a GoFundMe account to ease the burden.
