Dogs rescued from bubbling, boiling tar roof in sweltering heat

- How can people be so incredibly cruel? Animal shelters ask that question way too often. But according to Associated Humane Societies in North Jersey, “In some cases, there are just no words to describe the feelings we have when we encounter situations like this one.”

The shelter released photos showing a pit bull and Yorkie it rescued from a hot tar roof in Newark.

Last Friday, they’d gotten a call about two dogs in severe distress on a roof.

Staff members found the dogs “frantically dancing” to stop their feet burning on the tar roof, which was “bubbling, boiling, and burning” in the 96 degree heat.

“The Yorkie continuously ran to the edge of the roof to try to find an area that would not burn her further while the pit bull, covered in hot tar, had nearly given up hope,” the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter said in the post.

They add, no one was at home and “while there were trays of chicken legs and rice on the roof, there was not a drop of water in sight. Feces covered the roof as well so apparently, this is where these poor dogs live.”

Officers took the helpless dogs to an emergency veterinary hospital. They were severely burned and their condition is reportedly “guarded at this point. They will stay in the hospital until their condition improves and we are very hopeful for their recovery, but are unsure of the extent of their injuries right now. We will be in touch with the veterinarians there and hope to have an update on the pair soon.”

He shelter is handling several emergency cases right now and are asking for help. You can text HumaneHelp to 41444 or click here to make a donation.

Also, speak up when you see an animal suffering. “These two dogs are alive today because someone saw them and decided to make a call instead of ignoring the situation and figuring someone else will deal with it. Animals cannot speak for themselves. Please get involved. Call your local police if you see something like this and please, do not ignore it.”
