Police: Boy charged in South Philadelphia shooting

- Two children are recovering from bullet wounds and police say they were shot while one of them was playing with a gun. Now, that boy is facing several criminal charges.

Tuesday, police revealed they responded to a radio call for a ‘Person with a Gun’ at about 8:30pm Monday in South Philadelphia.

They got to the home on the 2100 block of Etting Terrace and found an 11-year-old girl “suffering from a gunshot wound to her right knee.” She was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

Police say the 13-year-old boy with her in a second floor bedroom “was holding and waving around a silver colored handgun when the gun fired one time.”

That bullet struck his left hand. Then, it went through and hit the girl in her right knee.

After that, the boy “ran from the residence” and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. He is also listed in stable condition.

Police charged him with aggravated assault, violation uniform firearms act, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and related offenses.

Officers are investigating who owns the gun and how the boy got it.
