Lost power after takeoff blamed for plane hitting hangar

Two people suffered injuries when a small plane hit the wall of a hangar.

It happened just before 9am Wednesday at New Garden Airport in Chester County.

SKYFOX was over the scene, showing a huge hole in the wall.

Police said the small two-seater lost altitude just after taking off. The 1940s-era Aeronca Champ lost power and tried to return to the airfield, but crashed through the east end of a hangar. Luckily, it missed several other vehicles.

We're told the injuries are minor but the two people on board -- a 68-year-old man and a 70-year-old man -- had to be taken to the hospital.

The hanger structure is being evaluated by township engineers, but there's little damage inside.

New Garden Township police are helping the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board with their investigation.
