2 new K-9 police officers join the force as one retires

K-9 Rocky of the Jenkintown Police Department is retiring his badge after eight years on the force.

He may look familiar to you. FOX 29 featured this hardworking and committed service dog back in 2014, when he was sick and needed donations to cover a life-saving intestinal surgery.

He got the surgery and he's doing great, but it's time for the 11-year-old K-9 to settle down -- even though settling down may not be in his blood!

Jenkintown Lt. Rick Tucker credits Rocky with a lot of narcotics and burglary arrests, and said he even apprehended a burglar, just six weeks ago.

As the department says good-bye to Rocky, it welcomes new K-9s Kane and Lycan.

The 17-month-old pups are officially on the force after their three months of training.

If you see the K-9 officers out on the street, you're asked to say hello. They're friendly boys!

By the way, Sunday night's event at the Jenkintown VFW raised money for the Jenkintown PBA and the K-9 Unit, which keeps these K-9 officers healthy and able to defend and comfort this community -- hopefully -- for years to come.
