Teen charged in Ambler double homicide

Ambler, Pa. (WTXF) Authorities say a teen has been charged in connection with the deaths of his mother and her boyfriend last month.
According to authorities, Joshua Trunk, 19, is facing for two counts of first-degree murder, possessing instruments of crime and violations of the uniform firearms act in the shooting deaths of his mother, Janice Trunk, 54, and Kevin Milton Smith, 44. He was also charged separately with possession with intent to deliver and other drug-related charges.
Police say  around 11:15 p.m. on July 31st, Ambler Police responded to a report of shots fired at the Forest Garden Apartments. Upon arrival at the complex, officers searched the various apartments for evidence of a shooting and located the second-floor shooting scene. Police say they entered the apartment where they discovered the bodies of the two victims lying in bed, dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
"When the officers entered the apartment, there were no signs of forced entry, no evidence of the ransacking common to burglaries and no indication of a struggle," said Steele. "Following a thorough investigation by the Ambler Police and the Montgomery County Detectives, the evidence pointed to the defendant and a family violence situation."
Authorities say the defendant was taken into custody the night of the murders on drug charges and has been in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility since.
Trunk was arraigned Wednesday and bail was denied. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15.
