Lancaster trucker crowned Most Beautiful

According to Overdrive magazine, out of the three million truck drivers in America, only about seven percent are women.

And the magazine’s readers recently voted a Lancaster woman as the most beautiful of them all.

“I'm representing women, I'm representing the company, I'm representing all of the people that have supported me and the town. So, that's really neat,” Joanne Fatta said.

She beat out 86 other women for the prize.

“With the right attitude I think what they are trying to say is other women can do what I have done,” she said.

Fatta got into the business when she was looking for a career change. Wanting independence and also to make a good living, she turned to trucking.

For the last 15 years she has worked for Sunrise Transport, which is based in Ephrata, Lancaster County.

In the beginning, she had her struggles.

“It took a long time I had a lot of injuries. A lot of ups and downs. A lot of areas. I learned my physical limitations,” she said.

But she has never been one to back down from a challenge.

A single mom and breast cancer survivor, Fatta has gained the utmost respect from her fellow truckers.

“It is just something you have to do a little bit differently then how the men do and handle yourself differently, but it's amazing then how you are accepted after a while,” she said.

She has even moved into the role of trainer for new drivers.

“I was a little surprised because I haven't met any female truck drivers. It's been a pleasure. She's trained me a lot,” Zach Fern with Sunrise Transport said.

Fatta says that she wants to use her new title to show others that they can be anything they want to be.

At the end of August, Fatta will travel to Dallas for the Great American Trucking Show. She’ll receive a makeover and do a photo shoot amongst other things.
