Suspect turns himself in to police in Reading teen's death

- Police say a man has turned himself in to police in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old Reading teen.

According to police, 29-year-old Avery Valentin-Bair faces 1st and 3rd degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of instruments of crime charges. Police say he had an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest. His bail was revoked Thursday afternoon.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell attended a vigil for the 16-year-old boy on Tuesday night.

"He always had a smile on his face. Always having people joking."

Family members remembered 16-year-old Christian Torres who died on the sidewalk on the 1100 block of Locust Street. It's still unclear how Torres died.  But police think Torres was stabbed to death after some sort of fight Sunday night that may have started over the victim wearing a scary Halloween mask.

The popular 10th grader at Reading High School already had a job at McDonald's and was getting his drivers license.

Now his family is preparing for his funeral.

"Last person I'd think it would ever happen to is one of the greatest kids on this block. Never bothered anybody.. never," said cousin John Torres.

The family of Christian Torres is planning his funeral for this weekend.
