PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia police say they have arrested a man in connection with an assault on two police officers.
According to police, on Wednesday, November 30 shortly after 1:30 p.m., two 24th district officers were in full uniform and on patrol in the area of 1200 E. Atlantic Street. Investigators say they observed a male exiting the passenger side of a 2004 Honda Accord with no tag assigned parked on the sidewalk at 1200 E. Atlantic Street. Officers stopped the male for investigation and questioned him about the ownership of the vehicle that he was observed exiting.
Authorities say the male attempted to run; however, a struggle ensued between both the officers and the male. According to police, during the physical struggle the man was throwing punches towards officers and shouting “I have H.I.V”. While attempting to secure the male with handcuffs he bit the each of the officers.
One officer sustained a bite mark on her left forearm and the second officer sustained a bite mark on his left hand. The officers were able to get the male into custody without further incident. Both officers were treated and released from Frankford Hospital.
Police say the male was later identified as 32-year-old Cesar Ortega. He was treated at Temple Hospital for minor injuries. According to police, he faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest and related offenses.
