Police: Woman dies after being struck by fleeing car during police pursuit

Police say a gun battle between people in two cars leads to a police pursuit and an innocent woman dead.

It happened around 7:30. Police were responding to gunshots in the area of 48th and Westminster.  They say a suspect jumped into a Nissan with glass shattered around it and took off.

Police pursued the car but the driver wouldn’t stop.  They say the driver hit four cars along the way before wrecking and coming to a stop at 52nd and Locust in Southwest Philly. 

Two suspects in the car were taken into custody with minor injuries. Police say they found a 9mm gun in the car. 

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross  says his heart goes out to the family of Carol Isom. She was driving a KIA Soul last night just after 7 p.m. at 52nd and Locust. Police say that's when the black Maxima police were chasing crashed into her car. She was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later.

Another innocent person suffered minor injuries.  Police say the second car involved in the gun battle got away.  

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from a store that captured some of the incident. Police are investigating to make sure proper protocol was followed.  Police have not said how fast the car was going.
