Wilmington, Del. (WTXF) - Relatives fought back tears as they described the Pit Bull attack on the 13-year-old boy that happened around 6:30 Wednesday night at 27th and Washington.
The boy's sister asked us not to identify her. She says her brother was bitten repeatedly as he struggled and his brother tried to get the dog off him. Police and medics responded and took the victim to the hospital with multiple bites to his body.
Family members said they heard the 8th grader screaming and came out to see the dog's teeth locked onto the child's legs. They say police tased the dog at first and then fired two shots killing the Pit Bull.
Delaware state animal welfare experts arrived on the scene. They are investigating exactly where the dog came from and who owned it although witnesses told them the dog was roaming the neighborhood just before the attack.
"I just want my brother to be okay," his sister told FOX 29.
Police and investigators say they are not sure exactly what sparked the attack by the Pit Bull. The 13-year-old remains hospitalized.
