Emily floods Florida on its way out to sea

- Tropical Depression Emily won’t mean much in the history books but it sure caused headaches on Miami Beach as it moved away from the southeast coast.

It drenched the low-lying city with nearly half a foot of rain.

The deluge left many streets and sidewalks flooded, forcing cars and pedestrians to slowly and carefully navigate the waters.

Some business owners even had to use sandbags to push back the water.

Despite being outside Emily's direct path, Miami Beach was under a flash flood warning, as water levels rose on some streets above vehicle doors. The National Weather Service said downtown Miami and Coral Gables also experienced flooding.

The National Hurricane Center said the poorly organized storm lost tropical characteristics as it met up with another front.
