Local High School Students Gets Science Teacher

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF)Finally some good news, Jazzlin Quiles has a real science teacher.

For the past several weeks, we've been reporting on the teacher shortage in Philadelphia’s public schools and how it impacted one Northeast High School sophomore.

After 2 and a half months into the school year, Jazzlin finally does have an environmental sciences teacher.

Jazzlin Quiles, a sophomore at Northeast High, wrote to FOX 29 back in October. In the emails, she explained that for the second year in a row she had no science teacher.  She says she had a so-called "cover" teacher, borrowed from somewhere else in the building, to keep an eye on the kids in the classroom. “Please help us!,” she wrote.

"I just wanted to get results," she told FOX 29.

Well, she finally got the help she wanted. Jazzlin says that teacher is still mostly reviewing biology because most of the kids in the class did not have a biology teacher all last year. Jazzlin doesn't mind, because  as we've reported she didn't have a biology teacher last year either.
