(STORYFUL/WTXF) Abby Stein is a transgender person who was raised as a male in a tight-knit Hasidic community in Brooklyn.

Her story has gained attention after she wrote a lengthy pos ton her blog on November 11 in which she documented her struggles with gender identity growing up, dealing with depression, starting hormone replacement therapy in September of this year, and feeling supported by many of those around her.

Abby’s transition has not been met with open arms across the board. Comments beneath her article include attacks like, “I really pity your mother and father that they have to go around knowing that they have such a stupid son,” and “As much as he can have gender issues, this should have remained private.”
