6-alarm Trenton fire finally placed under control

A major fire on a very small street started overnight. Then, hours later, it was upgraded to six alarms, still spreading and destroying.

Finally, shortly before 7:30am, it was placed under control.

As of 6:30am, nine homes had been destroyed, five actually collapsed and three cars were also destroyed.

This all happened on Weinberg Place. The fire started at about 3am.

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce reports crews got a slow start fighting it because live wires were down and they couldn't safely get close. That helped the fire gain momentum. PSE&G cut power from its grid to the whole neighborhood.

It's believed everyone who was evacuated got out safely. However, one woman with asthma was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Trenton Water Works increased the water pressure, and the fight continued.
