Woman Slashed Allegedly By Homeless Man on Her Way to Work: 'I Can't Believe It's Me'

(INSIDE EDITION) A woman who was slashed across the face as she walked to work in New York City on Wednesday morning says she is still in disbelief.

"I can't believe it is me," Amanda Lynn Morris, 24, told INSIDE EDITION. "The blood scared me so much. All I kept thinking was 'I just want to stop bleeding. I'm scared that I am losing so much blood.'"

At around 6 a.m. Wednesday, Morris was walking through Chelsea in Manhattan to the Whole Foods where she works. Suddenly, a blade-wielding homeless man ran up to her.

"As soon as I saw him, my instinct was 'I can cross the road' but I didn't because I thought I'll be fine," she said.

But then he attacked, slashing her across the face.

"At first I thought he had backhand punched me in the nose and I thought my nose was gushing blood," she said.

The attack cut left inch-long gashes across her face. Amanda ran into The Malibu Diner where good Samaritans gave her a towel to stop the bleeding.

She recalled: "They were like 'Oh my God, you have a big gash running down the side of your face.' I was like 'What do you mean a gash? I thought my nose was broken.' They were like 'no, if you don't get stitches, you are going to pass out.'"

She needed four stitches above her lip and three below her lip.

Amanda posted the images of her attack on Facebook.

Twelve hours later, cops say a pedestrian who recognized the attacker from surveillance footage, spotted him walking near St. Patrick’s Cathedral and alerted police.

Police arrested Kari Bazemore, 41, a homeless man with a reported 32 previous arrests. He is charged with felony assault and criminal possession of weapon.

Amanda said: "I am so happy that he is caught because he could have done that again and, even worse, could have killed somebody."

Today was a difficult day that I never thought I would have to go through, I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong...
