3-alarm apartment fire in Newark, Del. under investigation

Newark, Del. (WTXF)- Tuesday morning investigators are looking for what may have caused a fire at an apartment building in Newark, Delaware.

The fire displaced about 30 people.

"When I arrived here it was blazing," said Todd Owens.

He came home to find fire at the Autumn Park Apartments on Winter Haven Drive in Newark, Delaware where he lives.

"I live in building 38 directly across from the fire. It was coming out of the roof. They were trying to get it under control," said Owens.

Fire officials say it happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday. 30 people from 12 families are now displaced.

"I have a sister that lives 3 buildings away from here so shes nearby. I checked on her and she's ok  but its kind of scary because I live on the third floor of my building," said Julianne  Petroulis. She and other residents watched from outside the apartments gates as firefighters worked in icey conditions.

Owens is relieved to hear no one was hurt.
"I was concerned for the welfare of my children because when I got here my mother in law had them outside.
Thank God they got out," said Owens.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
