9-year-old bat boy struck in head with bat dies

WICHITA, KS (WTXF) -- A 9-year-old Kansas boy has died after he was struck by a baseball bat accidentally at a game Saturday afternoon.

The Liberal Bee Jays Facebook page posted a message informing the public of Kaiser Carlile's passing just seven hours ago.

The post reads, "With the permission of the family, and with much sorrow and a very broken heart, I regretfully inform everyone that Kaiser Carlile passed away earlier this evening. Please keep his family and our team in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you all for the support during this ordeal!"

According to investigators, Kaiser - a bat boy for the Liberal Bee Jays baseball team - was running to grab a bat lying on the ground.

Witness say that the on-deck batter did not see Carlile and accidentally struck him in the head with a practice swing.

The incident occurred during the National Baseball Congress World Series at Wichita's Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Carlile was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.
