Robbery suspect from overnight busted after crash, search

- The home invasion suspect police closed roads and asked people to stay home during their search for him is under arrest after several hours, early Thursday. It's the man police think changed clothes while on the run.

FOX 29’s Jennifer Joyce reported he was first wanted for a home invasion and robbery in West Mount Airy. Police said he broke into the house with a woman and two girls inside, where he assaulted the woman and then took off in her tan Kia Sorento with her credit cards and electronics.

He left at 2:15 a.m. and nobody was injured.

Then, police say he tried to use a card at an ATM near 76th Street and City Avenue and that’s when they came into contact with him.

It turns out, he ditched the SUV after a crash in the 5700 block of Overbrook Avenue, and ran away near St. Joseph’s University, at Cardinal and Overbrook avenues.

Police on foot and with K-9s went through the neighborhood, looking for him.

Joyce talked to one woman whose home police passed. She said they told her suspect may have been in the neighborhood and it looked like he tossed his clothes during his attempted escape.

Now, police say they've arrested him and formal charges are pending.
