Body of man walking dog found in Pennypack Creek

A man drowned in Pennypack Creek while trying to save his dog from the water.

People who were fishing made the discovery at about 9:30am Monday near the 8500 block of Verree Road.

Philadelphia police say the 67-year-old victim had been walking his dog when the dog somehow got into the water. They don't know if it fell or jumped in.

The man jumped into the water to save the dog, but he was swept away by the current.

The marine unit was called to help recover the body. The victim's name has not been released.

The dog was located at the victim's vehicle.
