Body found wrapped in tarp in Fairmount Park

Police are investigating the discovery of a body after a city worker made a gruesome discovery early Friday morning in West Philadelphia.

The body was found around 8:20 a.m. in Fairmount Park in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Black Road.

Investigators say a city employee from Parks and Recreation found what appears to be a partially decomposed body wrapped in a green tarp in a handicap parking lot.

In a Friday afternoon, press conference investigators said they have not yet identified the body and added that the body is badly decomposed. Police have not yet been able to determine the gender of the deceased.

Investigators believe the body may have been placed in that location within the last two weeks.

Homicide detectives will be handling the investigation due to the circumstances.
