Boy, 10, Accidentally Shoots Older Brother, Killing Him, During 'Cops and Robbers' Game

(INSIDE EDITION) A 10-year-old boy accidentally killed his own brother during a game of "cops and robbers" this week, according to authorities.

Police in Wisconsin's Sauk County said the tragedy unfolded Tuesday at a home in rural Loganville, located some 50 miles outside Madison.

The boy was playing with his 14-year-old brother and another 12-year-old child with rifles they believed were not loaded.

At one point the 10-year-old pointed a rifle at his 14-year-old brother and pulled the trigger, the Sauk County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

While the rifle firearm had the magazine removed, a round was in the chamber, unbeknownst to the boy.

The gun discharged and struck his brother in the chest. Though resuscitation efforts were started immediately, they were not successful.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sauk County Coroner's Office, police said.

This incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office, which did not release the names of the children involved or their family.
