(WTXF/AP) - All after-school activities (athletics and clubs) are canceled Wednesday at the Brandywine School District.
Schools are dismissing at normal time and after-care programs such as the YMCA will run as scheduled. Sporting events will be rescheduled at a later date
The Brandywine School District was currently operating on a soft lockdown earlier in the day Wednesday.
The district cited the search for a suspect sought in an unrelated shooting as the reason for the lockdown. Officials released the following statement:
Due to an ongoing police investigation unrelated to our schools, all BSD schools are currently operating on a soft lockdown. This means that students and staff are remaining inside. We are in contact with the police, who are currently searching for a suspect involved in a shooting unrelated to our schools; however, out of an abundance of caution while the investigation continues, we have decided to keep all students and staff inside. We do not expect this to impact dismissal or after-school activities. If that changes, we will let the community know right away.
A gunman opened fire at a Maryland office park on Wednesday morning, killing three co-workers and wounding two others, authorities and the business owner said.
He is also believed to be involved in a later shooting about 55 miles away in Wilmington, Delaware. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that all victims from Edgewood, Maryland and Wilmington, Delaware are connected or associated with the suspect.
A manhunt was underway for 37-year-old Radee Labeeb Prince, who was considered armed and dangerous. Wilmington police said Prince has an address there and relatives in the area.
