Burn Victim Creates Powerful Make-Up Tutorial to Call for an End to Acid Attacks

(INSIDE EDITION)- Reshma is an acid attack survivor giving a YouTube make-up tutorial - with a twist.

Teaming up with the nonprofit Make Love, Not Scars, she filmed the tutorial and reminded her viewers just how easy it is for attackers to prey on their victims with the chemical.

After applying lipstick, she explains that finding acid in a store is just as easy as finding the right shade of lip color.

“You’ll find a red lipstick easily in the market, just like concentrated acid,” Reshma said. “This is the reason why, every day, a girl becomes a victim of an acid attack.”

According to Reshma's Indiegogo campaign, she was on her way to school last May when she was attacked with sulfuric acid on her face. The money raised helped her receive cosmetic surgery but she still lost her left eye.

Every year nearly 1,500 women are attacked with acid, according to The Wall Street Journal’s Real Time Blog, which reported the staggering stat in 2013.

Acid attacks disfigure the victims’ appearance and their muscles as well as their internal organs are often damaged.

Make Love, Not Scars launched a petition on Wednesday to collect signatures in an effort to stop the sale of acid. The organization shares the stories of other survivors and provides support for them.
