Charlotte Humane Society takes in animals evacuating flooded shelters

A Charlotte animal shelter has become a safe haven for dozens of dogs from eastern North Carolina.

Florence's heavy rain caused several rescue centers in the eastern part of the state to flood.

The Humane Society of Charlotte took in more than 20 dogs and animals from eastern NC, and more than 60 animals total have found a safe place in Charlotte to escape the flood waters.

Some of these animals came from Robeson County, and there have already been some taken in from the Outer Banks and Charleston.

It's heartwarming to see everyone stepping in to help in this time of need for both people and animals.

The Carolina Waterfowl Rescue says its actually receiving a lot of animals that have been hit by cars-- they want to remind people to watch out for those animals with these flooded roadways.
