Cocaine found in bags of coffee at JFK Airport

Three lbs. of cocaine stuffed in plastic coffee bags were confiscated at John F. Kennedy Airport.

According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office, Jamaican citizen Sherese Lee Ann Drake was carrying the bags in her suitcase on Tuesday in an attempt to smuggle them into the country.

During a security search, an agent spotted a white powder in one of the bags. Drake was brought to a private room where two more bags were discovered to have a similar white powder.

The substances tested positive for cocaine.

"This seizure is another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of illicit drugs," said Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP's New York Field Operations.

The estimated street value of the illegal drug is more than $50,000.

Drake was arrested and faces state narcotics smuggling charges.
