Cops: Burglar Accidentally Butt Dialed 911, Inadvertently Revealed His Plans

(Inside Edition)- A suspected burglar accidentally butt dialed 911 and inadvertently revealed his alleged plans, authorities said.

Scott Robert Esser, 42, was indicted in a New Jersey court this week.

He was arrested in July after police say they heard him and an accomplice talking about breaking into homes and stealing items.

On July 27, the county communications center got a call that seemed wayward - a type of call that is "commonly referred to as a 'butt dial,"' authorities said.

As dispatchers listened in, they heard two men discussing an apparent burglary from an unknown location, authorities said.

Later in the day, cops received a call of a burglary in the county.

Police were later able to track down the call to Esser and he was arrested after police obtained a search warrant for his car, NJ.com reported.

Inside, they found jewelry, electronic devices, a Playstation 4, a handgun, U.S. Bonds worth over $11,000, and burglary tools, authorties said.

Esser has been indicted on one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree theft and one count of third-degree criminal mischief in connection with the burglaries committed in Branchburg Township, Berkeley Heights, and Stafford Township, authorities said.

He is being held in the county jail and bail has been set at $100,000.
