Cops: Gun Advocate Mom is Accidentally Shot in the Back By Her 4-Year-Old Son

(INSIDE EDITION) A gun rights advocate in Florida was seriously wounded on Tuesday when her 4-year-old son shot her in the back from the back seat of her vehicle, police say.

According to Putnam County authorities, Jamie Gilt was discovered shot in her truck when a deputy noticed she was acting frantic.

When the deputy approached Gilt, she told him she was shot by her young son.

On a Facebook account matching Gilt's name and personal details, multiple posts advocate for gun ownership, mock liberals, and paint gun law critics as foolish.

There are similar posts on another Facebook account bearing Gilt's name, this one a community page called Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense,

While the 31-year-old mom was rushed to a hospital, her son was reunited with family members.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the investigation is ongoing to determine exactly how the firearm was stored in the vehicle.

Florida Statute deems it a misdemeanor for a person to store or leave, on a premise under his or her control, a loaded firearm in such a manner that it is likely a child can gain access.

"The investigation is ongoing to determine exactly how the firearm was stored in the vehicle," the police statement said.

However, police have thus far been unable to speak with Gilt as she recuperates in the hospital. "It is not known when we anticipate speaking with the victim," police said.
