Cops: Man Allegedly Stabs Co-Worker's 3-Year-Old Daughter to Death in Unprovoked Attack

(INSIDE EDITION) A 34-year-old man allegedly stabbed a co-worker's 3-year-old daughter to death at the California factory where he and the toddler's mother worked together.

Authorities are calling the incident an unprovoked attack with no known motive.

The victim, who police are calling "Baby Ruby," had just been picked up from day care to be with her mother, who was working at a clothing manufacturing business on the 800 block of McGarry Street in downtown Los Angeles when she was attacked at about 5 p.m. Monday, cops said.

Ricardo Augusto Utuy allegedly stabbed the little girl multiple times before fleeing, officials said.

The brutal killing came without warning, as Utuy barely knows the victim's mother, police said.

"Although the suspect and 'Baby Ruby's' mother worked at the same location, they had minimal contact with each other," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.

The toddler was rushed to a hospital, but she could not be saved.

An apparently avid poster on social media, Utuy appeared to have two Facebook profiles that looked to serve two vastly different purposes.

On one, posts included pictures of Utuy posing in a suit as well as with two young children. He also often posted images of inspirational and humorous quotes.

"Donde hay fe hay amor, donde hay amor hay paz, donde hay paz esta Dios y donde está dios no falta nada," read one photo, which roughly translates to "where there is faith there is love, where there is love there is peace, where peace is God and where is God nothing is missing."

On his other profile were countless photos of sexually explicit images as well as images of weapons he appeared to have taken, posting on Monday a photo of a switchblade and a handgun.

Police could not confirm the authenticity of the images.

Many social media users posted on Utuy's Facebook after his arrest, outraged by the heinous crime he is accused of committing.

"SICK F***," one man wrote.

"Send this f*** where he came from … from the depths of hell," another posted.

Utuy was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and was charged with murder.

He was being held on $1 million bail.
