Deer Roams the Streets of South Philly

PHILADELPHIA-(WTXF)-A new neighbor has popped up in South Philly and it has some people doing a double take.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has the story on the rare sighting in the neighborhood.

Bill DeSimone could not believe his eyes when he saw it. Pictures show a wild deer wandering South Philly flooded social media.

"From the corner of my eye it was just a Great Dane. So I'm just like that's a dog. And it literally ran right by me I said 'That's not a dog. That's a deer,'" DeSimone explained.

It was first spotted on 9th and Ritner. Then, on Oregon Avenue, and then on Porter Street.

"That was bizarre. Living in South Philly. A deer that blew my mind. I was in shock," DeSimone told FOX 29.

Witnesses tell FOX 29 the deer's mouth was bleeding and may have been hit by a car.

Police were called and gave chase. Eventually, witnesses tell us officers from the third district corralled the deer and brought it back to FDR Park.

Philadelphia Animal Care Control experts tell FOX 29 deer have been known to make it into urban areas but usually not this urban.

Another resident tells FOX 29's Chris O'Connell they saw another deer in the neighborhood Wednesday morning. The city says if you see a deer contact Animal Control immediately.
