Dr. Heimlich, 96, does his maneuver and saves a life

- You’ve surely heard of the Heimlich maneuver.

This week, its namesake who invented it finally got to prove it works in a real-life situation.

An 87-year-old woman at his retirement home was choking on a piece of hamburger, so the retired surgeon performed his trademark maneuver.

Dr. Henry Heimlich, at 96, was able to dislodge the piece of meat from her airway.

It was his first time using it in a real-life scenario, after demonstrating it hundreds of times since the 1970s.

“When I used it, and she recovered quickly, it made me appreciate how wonderful it has been to be able to save all those lives,” he told The Cincinnati Enquirer.
