Drexel student struck by car, critically injured

- A Drexel student is in critical condition after being hit by a car early Saturday morning.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. at the corner of 38th and Market Streets.
Police say the driver, a 55-year-old woman, was behind the wheel of a silver Lexus and stayed on scene.
After further investigation, police determined that the driver was traveling on Market Street with a green light when the 23-year-old woman crossed the street against the red light.
The victim was taken to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center with serious head trauma. She is still recovering in critical condition.
When the responding officer arrived on scene, they smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the driver. The driver was taken into custody for a breathalyzer test that came back at .000.
Police then released the driver with no further charges.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
