Family, friends grieve at vigil for 17-year-old shot and killed in Upper Darby

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WTXF) - Friends and family gather to remember the life of a teen.

"He was the light of my life," said Ollie Lear. She's grieving the loss of her son 17-year old Armand. He was gunned down over a week ago. Monday, she was surrounded by more than a hundred people who turned out for a vigil.

"It's just so sad and so senseless that he had to leave me this way but I know I serve a mighty God," she cried. Lear says her son would have started his senior year of high school this fall and that he would say goodbye to her every day before he went to school and work.

"He won't come home no more but I know he's with my Lord and Savior," she said.

State Representative Margo Davidson led the vigil pleading with the community to come to her with information if they didn't want to go directly to police.

"I will walk you to where you need to be in order to put to rest the perpetrator of this crime so this community doesn't have to wonder, whisper and walk in fear," she said.

Superintendent Michael Chitwood said Armand was shot after an altercation at a house party on Glendale Road. Investigators say four guys chased him to an alleyway not far from the house and shot him. Witnesses tell police it may have been an attempted robbery. Police say they're starting to get information about a possible shooter.

"Our communities are our communities and these thugs should not take them over and that's what is happening," said Superintendent Chitwood.

After the crowd released balloons, Armand's mother had a message for her son's killer.

"Whoever did it ask God to help you. He'll help you, but you got to turn yourself in," she said.

A funeral is planned for next week. A GoFundMe has been set up for donations to help with the burial.
