Braves Fan Died from Trauma from Fall

ATLANTA - The Fulton County Medical Examiner has released the cause and manner of death of the fan who fell from the upper deck of Turner Field Saturday night.

Gregory Murrey, 60, of Alpharetta, was a 23-year season ticket holder of the Atlanta Braves. Murrey fell from Section 401 in the upper deck during Saturday night's game against the Yankees.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said Murrey died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso. Investigators have ruled the incident an accident. Atlanta Police said they do not suspect foul play was involved.

"If you fall anywhere, 50 feet, it's not going to be a pleasant ending. It's unfortunate," fan Darren Hitland said.

Hundreds of fans were stunned when Murrey fell, just as Yankees star Alex Rodriguez stepped on deck.

Family of Deceased Braves Fan 'Looking For Answers'

The crowd at Turner Field removed their hats and bowed their heads in a moment of silence for one of the Braves' biggest fans who died after falling from his seat.

"This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves country," the announcer said during Sunday's game.

The flag flew at half-staff Sunday in memory of 60-year-old Greg Murrey. Friends said Murrey was a diehard fan who kept track of every game.

"I was happy to see that they honored the gentleman that had fallen," one fan said.

The fall horrified the crowd Saturday night. Atlanta Police said around 9 p.m., Murrey fell over the railing of the upper deck and landed in the terrace level behind home plate.

Murrey's wife told FOX 5 News that she is still "looking for answers" in his death.

A representative for the Braves said the organization won't comment on stadium safety questions Sunday, as this latest fall at Turner Field is under investigation.

"This is an old stadium. Perhaps with the new stadium they will make the rails a little higher," another fan said.

A family statement read, "Greg was a season ticket holder with the same seats for 23 years. The night Greg passed away he was doing one of his favorite things-- watching the Braves."

Murrey, from Alpharetta, founded and ran the company N-Surance Outlets, which has a Roswell office, according to the company's website.

Associates told FOX 5 Murrey was a proud member of fraternity Sigma Nu and was a Georgia State alum.
