Family pleads for arrest in shooting death of 14-year-old

Chester, Pa. (WTXF) Police say a shooting in Chester killed a 14-year-old and left two others injured Saturday night.

The teen's heartbroken father spoke with FOX 29.

"I want my son to know I’ll always love him and I'll never forget him,” said the victim's father, Robert Nichols.

A tearful father spoke two days after his child 14-year-old Zenas Powell  was gunned down in the city of Chester.  Police say on Saturday night Naz was shot and killed in a firestorm of 35 bullets flying furiously in the area of a convenience store near 10th street and Pine Lane.

"I can't describe the pain or hurt. I don't want to see it happen to anybody else's child," Nichlos explained.

A picture of Naz and his father was taken Friday night before the teen's 8th grade formal. Robert  Nichols says this was the last night he spent with his son.

Nichols says his son had dreams of becoming a doctor and studying at Hershey Medical Center.  On Saturday night, the boy stopped into the convenience store with his brother and cousins.  When he walked out, the teens were trapped by gunfire.  Naz's 16-year-old cousin Quarmore was also shot . He's in critical condition at Crozer Chester Medical Center.  A third person , Janine Shipley suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.  She's OKAY. Naz didn't make it.

The founders of Chester Community Charter School where Naz attended 8th grade  plan to pay for the child's funeral.  Additionally, they're doubling the reward money for information -bringing the total to $10,000. Police say they're working to retrieve surveillance video and they're still interviewing witnesses  but they need people to start cooperating.

"The thing is for the public to speak to police as much as they speak on social media and the barber shops because we are getting the information second hand and we are constantly playing catch-up," said Chester Police Department Chief James Nolan.

A family in mourning is pleading for information.
